The Lurie Children's Solid Tumor Oncology Program includes multiple pediatric oncologists focused exclusively on the care of children with solid tumors. All are actively involved in the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), and each brings a unique area of expertise to our program. Through weekly multidisciplinary conferences, group consensus discussions help ensure that all patients receive the optimal therapy.

Surgical Oncology

The Surgical Oncology Program at Lurie Children's offers innovative treatments using the latest technology, including fluorescence-guided surgery, to help visualize tumors during surgery, robotic surgery and other minimally-invasive techniques, and fertility preservation procedures. Surgeons from the Division of Pediatric General & Thoracic Surgery provide expert care for children with tumors of the chest and abdomen, including those of the lung, kidney, adrenal gland, and ovary.

Surgical specialists in the Division of Urology provide expert care for children with testicular tumors. The urologic oncology program is led by Dr. Ed Gong, who also works in close collaboration with Dr. Lautz from pediatric surgical oncology for our multi-disciplinary minimally-invasive and partial nephrectomy renal tumor surgery.

Head and Neck Surgery

Experts in head and neck surgery from the divisions of Pediatric Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, as well as from the Division of Pediatric General & Thoracic Surgery, provide specialized surgical care for patients with thyroid tumors and sarcomas of the head and neck region. Led by Dr. Jeff Rastatter, a member of the COG Soft Tissue Sarcoma Committee, this group works closely with colleagues in endocrinology, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery.
