Formula Lab

The Formula Lab at Lurie Children’s, located at the main hospital, prepares specialty formulas for infants, children and adolescents admitted to the hospital.

A stand-alone Formula Lab is a service unique to specialty pediatric hospitals and allows for a safe environment for the preparation of formulas by specially-trained nutrition technicians.

The Formula Lab prepares formula for approximately 50% of admitted patients who are fully dependent on formula taken either orally or via tube feeding, or patients who require formula for supplementation to an oral diet.

This includes:

  • Formulas prepared from powder
  • Ready-to-feed (liquid) formulas
  • Additives such as protein, fat, and fiber supplements
  • Special formula recipes
