Lurie Children’s Chicago Marathon Team Makes Fundraising History
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is known for its flat and fast course. Now our runners are known as the highest fundraising marathon team in Lurie Children’s history after raising more than $815,000.
The incredible fundraising efforts by our marathon team put Lurie Children’s close to the $850,000 threshold to advance to the Tier 1 Charity Team Program. “It was such a fun year, and we are taking that momentum to next year’s race, hit that tier 1 level and are ready to raise more important funds for our hospital ” said Ted McCartan, Sr. Director Community Engagement.
In addition to the team striving to move up a notch in the program, our motivated runners also set individual goals. Marathon runner Jon Reiner raised more than $114,000 – the highest individual fundraising total in our team’s history. Jon plans to run and fundraise with Lurie Children’s again with an even greater individual goal of $130,000.
Another member of the team, Nick Yanek, crossed the finish line at 2:22.16, which was just 22-minutes behind the world record time.
“We had one of the highest fundraisers and one of the fastest fundraisers in the history of the race – that is pretty cool,” stressed Ted. “But every single one of our runners had a transformational impact on our endurance program, finished with a bucket-list experience and a huge accomplishment. And the coolest part of all, they did it for the kids.”
